Rodg the Dodge vague on Carroll future, but says striker "won't leave for nothing"

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that Andy Carroll will not be leaving Anfield on the cheap this summer, with the striker's future up in the air when his loan deal at West Ham ends at the end of the season.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce yesterday reiterated his intention to sign the England striker permanently at the end of the season, and former club Newcastle United are also reportedly interested in re-signing the big centre forward.

However, Rodgers has told the Mail that no deal will be done unless the price is right- and that Carroll may still feature in his plans for next season.

"It's absolutely the case, exactly as it was last season, that if the player does leave then it won't be for nothing," the Northern Irishman said.

"He came here for an astronomical fee which was no fault of his own so we will see what happens in the summer.

Rodgers laid on a pretty heavy hint that accommodating Carroll in his Liverpool side would be a task in itself.

"If you look at how Luis Suarez has flourished in his roaming role this season, it is because we are a team set up to exploit his qualities. There is no doubt that Andy has qualities, but sometimes with other players, you may have to set up in a certain way to get the best out of them."
