Alonso Trotting along: Irons target offered new Bolton contract

Reported West Ham transfer target Marcos Alonso has been offered a new deal at the Reebok Stadium by Championship side Bolton Wanderers, Sky Sports are reporting this morning. The defender has put in some impressive performances this season and is said to have been watched by Hammers scouts and by Sam Allardyce in person, but could be set to commit his future to the Lancashire outfit after a new deal was tabled  to him.

The left back is out of contract at the end of the season and Bolton opted not to cash on him on January and instead have attempted to tie Alonso down on a long term basis, with the Irons, Stoke City, Celtic and Fiorentina all reportedly interested in in the former Spain U19 international.

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedom told the Bolton News today, "Marcos has been playing by the rules- he's been offered a new contract and so far it's all good. He hasn't said 'no,' he says he's thinking about it. He wants to see in what direction the club's going, not in terms of what league we'll be in, but in terms that eh wants to play every week, he wants to be coached and get better. We've got our fingers crossed."

One worth keeping an eye on, it seems Alonso is weighing up his options; at the age of 22, his next move is crucial for his career so will not pass up an opportunity for a big Premier League move lightly.
