Rio rejects transfer talk- Irons old boy wants Old Trafford stay

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has today told the Daily Mail of his desire to stay at the club, amid  rumours in recent weeks of a return to the Boleyn Ground as he nears the end of his career.

Ferdinand's Red Devils take on West Ham tonight and will be looking to increase their lead over neighbours Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and the 34 year old says he is totally focused on the Manchester outfit, with his contract up in the summer.

"I'm just enjoying my football, playing in the big games, being a regular in the team. No one else will be able to do what Giggsy (team mate Ryan Giggs, who has recently signed a new deal at the club which will see him play into his forties) has done. When you get to my stage, you take it year by year. I'm working out my routine."

The former Hammers stopper has recently strengthened his position at Old Trafford by rejecting a return to the national side, thus showing his commitment to the Reds' cause, and has made his intentions for his future very clear here.

It's a shame in a way, he could add a lot of experience to our squad and really help our young defenders in their development, but would mainly be a marquee signing ahead of the Stratford move. Plenty of other big names out there!
