Carroll laid low by virus- striker now doubt for Southampton clash

West Ham striker Andy Carroll is 50-50 to return for the Hammers at St Mary's on Saturday against Southampton after suffering a virus, the Express are reporting this morning. The England star missed Sunday's goalless draw at parent club Liverpool under the terms of his loan agreement but had hoped to return against the Saints. This now appears to be in doubt, as Carroll has not trained this week after picking up the bug.

Irons boss Sam Allardyce will watch his condition over the next two days and will make a decision on the 24 year old on Friday as the team prepare for the trip to the South Coast which could see the Hammers leapfrog Southampton into 11th place with a win.

Heal, Andy, heal!
