In what could have been a rehearsal for the 2020 Champions League final (we can dream), West Ham’s U14 side have drawn 0-0 with Barcelona U14s.
The match was an exciting one for the young side who were involved in the Copa de la Amistad tournament in Spain along with fellow English side Manchester City, after finishing in the top two of the Barclays Premier League Under-14 National Tournament in January.
Barca threw everything they had at the Hammers, but West Ham were rewarded for their defensive efforts with a highly creditable draw, completing an excellent recovery from their 3-0 defeat the day before by UE Cornella.
Mark Phillips, the West Ham United Academy youth development coach told whufc.com: "We played Barcelona at their training ground and held them to a 0-0 draw and it was an unbelievable experience for the youngsters and coaches. We also went for a tour of the Nou Camp and enjoyed meals with the other clubs involved."
"As coaches, it was fantastic to swap ideas with our counterparts from the other clubs and they were complimentary to us about our style of play."
Joining Phillips on his coaching team were Matt Smith, Ian Yuill and Darren Smith, as well as Academy head of recruitment Dave Hunt.
Keep up the good work lads, the future could be bright!
