Carroll good enough for England, says Hammers favourite Cottee

West Ham legend Tony Cottee has said that England need Andy Carroll, after the on-loan forward scored two excellent goals against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and helped the Irons to a 3-1 victory which bolstered their survival hopes.

Writing in his Newham Recorder column, the pundit lavished praise on the big striker and said that if he can stay fit, Carroll can prove to be an asset for club and country.

"Saturday's win was a great result for the club and a lot has been said about Andy Carroll this season- but after a performance like that, you have to say he would add something to the England squad."

"His first goal was typical Andy Carroll, a great header, but his second showed what a good footballer he is as well. What he now needs is a run of games between now and the end of the season; a fit Andy Carroll would be a great asset to West Ham and England."

The on loan Liverpool striker will be ineligible to face his parent club, but if he can keep turning in performances like Saturday's, Roy Hodgson will find it difficult to ignore him.
