Dev Squad pick up a point

The Hammers’ U21 side faced a tough match against table toppers Tottenham last night, but managed to pick up a much needed point under the floodlights at the Boleyn Ground.

Wellington Paulista scored for West Ham in the 1-1 draw, which was a great result for the Development squad against a Spurs side who have been running the Barclays U21 Premier League.

West Ham struck first after 16 minutes when Paulista netted a good header from a George Moncur corner. The Brazilian has now scored five goals for the Development Squad and his confidence continued to show throughout the match, with subsequent dangerous runs on the wing and acrobatic efforts on goal.

Spurs equalised after 33 minutes with a good finish, but the Hammers battled hard for a point in the second half and were unlucky not to come away with all three points

Out of favour first team striker Mobido Maiga was heavily involved in the game after Elliot Lee was declared unfit for action. He frequently showed his flair and determination and was unlucky not to net himself.

All in all, a positive performance from the Development Squad who now climb to fifth in the league. Of all the games to get a point from, this was the most impressive, and the side will be confidence ahead of the match against Southampton on Monday.

Expect reaction from Nick Haycock later, who will surely be praising his side’s efforts.
