No contract talks until we're safe- Allardyce

In yet another twist in the Pan's Labyrinth which is the talks over West Ham manager Sam Allardyce's new contract at the club, the 59 year old told the Daily Mirror last night that no discussions have begun yet- a direct contradiction to both his and the board's previous statements on the matter.

Allardyce last night told the newspaper, "I'm not begging for a contract and I've never had to. Our understanding has always been that we'll see where we are at the end of the season before we talk about a new one- but that was always much more my idea than the board's."

Not entirely true, Sam. On 15 March, the former Blackburn boss publicly pressed the board for a new deal before the end of the season..

"We'll sit down when we're safe. What's the point in my waiting till the end of the season if we're mathematically safe with a few games to go?"

Co-chairman David Gold then revealed on 3 April that negotiations were already underway over a new deal, telling the Sun that plans had already been launched..

"There's a willingness on both sides to make it happen.. there's a few 'i's to be dotted and 't's to be crossed and details of the deal will remain private for the moment but once we are assured of Premier League survival, we would hope an announcement will be made."

Big Sam is "bullish," the Mirror says, about his prospects of a new deal, which "will be sorted out once we've confirmed our Premier League status."

We now seemingly have our manager playing football politics on two counts, on the day of legendary Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's funeral; on the future of Andy Carroll and his own future at West Ham. Mrs T would be proud of you, Sam!
