Mahamadou the hump: Irons close in on Mali defender

West Ham are poised to make a summer bid to Portguese outfit Vitora Guimares for their highly-rated defender Mahamadou N'Diaye, the Mirror are reporting this morning. The big centre half, who has 8 caps for Mali, has impressed in Portugal this season and Sky Sports reported on Monday that the Hammers' Premier League rivals Fulham are also interested and have sent scouts to watch N'Diaye. However, Vitora sources stated earlier in the week that no offers had been made for the player, saying that "formally we have not received any propositions; it is normal we would look at this at the end of the season."

The Irons currently have one of the smallest squads in the league and unquestionably need reshaping in the summer, particularly across the back four. James Collins is not quite the player we sold to Villa four years ago- some fresh blood is needed. This could be the man...
