Carroll in crisis: no West Ham move on the cards for big striker as Hammers priced out of the market

Andy Carroll's footballing future is all up in the air after West Ham signalled today that no move is on the cards for the 23 year old centre forward and will send the player back to parent club Liverpool when his loan deal expires at the end of the current season. Sports Direct News have this afternoon reported that the Hammers have decided that 3 goals in 15 appearances this season is not good enough form to justify smashing the club transfer record and splash out £17m on the England striker. Sky Sports reported a few weeks back that a fee had been agreed between West Ham and Liverpool but this was quickly rubbished by Irons chief Sam Allardyce in an interview with Eurosport.

A club source today stated that "the move is too expensive. It's not been an easy season for Andy but it looks increasingly less likely that a deal will be done. With wages of £84k a week over four years plus the transfer fee would add up to around £33m and in the current economic climate, we need to cut our cloth."

The Irons will now reportedly look at cheaper targets such as Southampton's Rickie Lambert- although the player has previously expressed a desire to stay at St Mary's.
