The 23 year old has produced a string of outstanding performance in France for Ligue One side Toulouse, and Barca are said to see the Tunisian international as a long term replacement for club legend Carles Puyol. The Magpies, meanwhile, are looking for defensive reinforcements following what looked like a serious injury to former West Ham target Massadio Haidara in their 2-1 defeat by Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
Reports in France have linked both Premier League outfits to watch Abdennour, who according to TalkSport, has already been watched by scouts from Barcelona.
