Spence expects top three finish for Dev Squad

Development Squad defender Jordan Spence has said that the side should be able to finish in the top three in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Elite Group.

The full back has assured fans that the defeat to Wolves this week will be put behind them ahead of tonight’s big clash with Manchester United at Upton Park.

He told West Ham TV: "We've spoken about this as a group and we want to finish in the top three...We've played everyone now barring Manchester United and Liverpool. We know the ability that's in the dressing room and of those who are coming back from loans. We might lose some, hopefully some will play in the first team. But we know that as a football club we've got strength in depth. We've got to finish in the top three."

The top three teams in the league will be put through to the semi-finals of the competition, but with West Ham currently in the fifth spot, the pressure is on.

Speaking about defeat to Wolves, Spence said: "It's the first thing I said once the game finished, 'let's not let this happen again.' This is Development Squad football so it's about development but it's also about results. The next level up from here is our first team. And you know that if that had been a first-team game, that's not on, you're not allowed to do that. So we'll make sure that we learn our lesson quickly."

If you’re around the Boleyn Ground tonight and fancy seeing some Development Squad action, tickets are £3 for adults, £1 for under-16s and free for Season Ticket Holders. Kick off is 7pm, and it’s sure to be an action packed match under the floodlights.
