Hearn to give up "the good fight" if no judicial review forthcoming

Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn has said today that should no judicial review into the LLDC's decision to name West Ham as their preferred bidder for the Olympic Stadium be forthcoming, he will drop his case against the body and against this club.

"I've spent a lot of money and cost a lot of people money during this, but that doesn't matter because I'm in the right," Hearn told a press conference at the Nolan Partners Sport Industry Breakfast Club this morning.

"But if I lose this, I have to walk away. It must stop- I can't do anything else."

However, the 64 year old businessman is intent on fighting his case all the way and gave Sky Sports his views on the judicial review earlier:

"We are suggesting a groundshare with West Ham but are not getting much support. We think our case is pretty straightforward. It is a question of weeks rather than months on the decision and let's see if the judges agree. We think our case is cast iron and we'll fight it all the way, as we do in the East End."

Hearn is clearly pulling out all the stops for his case, and is lashing out at anybody within arm's reach. The LLDC, West Ham and the politicians involved in the case have all borne the brunt of the ever-opinionated Hearn's tongue.

"West Ham won't even talk to us about the process of teaming- I phoned David Sullivan, who I've known for 25 years, and he said "I've been advised not to talk to you."

"The whole saga has been mismanaged; I've spoken to the politicians involved and they're awful. They don't have much common sense or any practical knowledge- they keep getting it wrong. (Former Olympics minister) Tessa Jowell and (former Mayor of London) Ken Livingstone made a decision to create a Meccano stadium with a running track round it and it doesn't work."

One wonders, in that case, just why Hearn wants so desperately to move his club to this "Meccano" stadium? We're put in mind of an alternative take on Hearn's motives for wanting to move, reported by us on March 10:

Anyway, food for thought and hopefully, this whole pointless, unnecessary saga will be over soon and Hearn can retire to whatever it is he did before he decided he wanted a football club to play with.
