Reid leading the way: centre half proud to captain Hammers on Saturday

Winston Reid has said that he feels privileged to have captained West Ham to victory against Stoke on Saturday.

This was Reid’s first start as a West Ham captain, an honour given to him after captain Kevin Nolan and vice-captain Mark Noble were both sidelined by injury.

On his captaincy style, Reid told whufc.com "as a captain, I just try to give 100 per cent and try to help out my team-mates. I try to be a good role model and try to do my best and encourage everyone to try their hardest and be a winner."

He admitted that the game was tough, but on the Stoke win, Reid said: "We needed the three points. Stoke is a hard place to come so the boys did really well and got the win, so it was good. At the end, they had about four big boys up there. We had enough to deal with, but at the end we got a clean sheet and the win, which were important.”

Reid also praised the defensive efforts of the side and believes that they coped well with losing two key players early on.

Winston Reid is certainly in the running for Hammer of the Year, so as much as he is honoured to be asked to captain the team, the fans are more than happy to see him in charge on the field.
