Da Costa of criticism: ex Irons defender suspended from Portuguese club after assaulting teammate in dressing room

Former West Ham centre half Manuel Da Costa has been suspended from Portuguese club Nacional after "beating up" a teammate in the dressing room after last weekend's match against Rio Ave, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo are reporting.

The ex Portugal U21 international is on loan to Nacional from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, but after this incident, is likely to be sent back to his parent club. Da Costa was sent off in the match after two bookable offences; the second of which was kicking the ball away, something which incensed his manager, who criticised him after the game. Reportedly, a team mate approached Da Costa after the game and questioned him about his conduct, and former Hammers defender Da Costa responded by attacking him. The player has been told by the Portuguese club not to attend training and that he will not be required for further matches.

This incident is hardly a new thing for Da Costa; in January 2011, while a West Ham player, he was charged with sexual assault and common assault on a woman in an Ilford nightclub. In September of that year, the Portuguese was found guilty of slapping the woman in the face, fined £1,000 and ordered to pay her £250 compensation.

The bloke clearly has some major anger issues going on- but honestly, is he any more nuts than Tomas Repka? Da Costa seems like a pyscho but personally, I always rated him as a player with us; he was always totally committed to the cause.. although, preferably one's centre halves wouldn't be convicted thugs!
