Anfield legend Aldridge blasts "disgraceful" Cole

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has used his newspaper column to blast Joe Cole’s words the last week against the Merseyside team.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge claims that Cole’s comments were “disgraceful” and showed disrespect to a club that treated him well.

Aldridge wrote: “Joe Cole threw a custard pie in the face of every Liverpool FC fan with his disgraceful comments last week.

“Cole said that signing for us was a big mistake as he can only play for teams that he’s passionate about. He also dismissed suggestions he had ever said he was joining the biggest club in the country.”

He went on to say that Liverpool fans ignored his £5million wages and the fact that he was injured, and was even as petty as to say that “he was out injured with a twisted sock most weeks”, a comment which, to me, is not even criticism, that’s just being downright rude.

Aldridge’s final comments were: “So for him to come out with rubbish like that was a real kick in the plums. I know he wants to endear himself to people back in London but what a crazy way to do it. He should realise how huge Liverpool are around the world.”

I’ve got a sudden urge for some sour grapes, but I’m not sure why.
