Newcastle complete Haidara signing- Hammers miss out

Newcastle United have completed the signing of France Under-21 international Massadio Haidara for a fee believed to be in excess of £3 million. The 20 year old left back said "I like the club's ambition to strengthen the whole team so we can improve our league position- that's what appealed to me." The news will come as a disappointment to West Ham fans who had hoped to see the Irons land the promising young full back; especially in the midst of what looks like an emerging injury crisis in the Hammers defence. James Collins is still sidelined with a hamstring injury which has kept him out of the last three games; while regular central defensive partner Winston Reid and full back Dan Potts both exited Wednesday night's thrashing at Arsenal owing to injury, with Potts being carried off on a stretcher. Reid had a scan on a suspected groin tear yesterday and Potts has been discharged from hospital, where he spent Wednesday night and so the extent of their injuries and the subsequent absences is not yet clear, but with the transfer deadline thundering down upon us, Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is under increasing pressure to sign defensive reinforcements.
