Espanyol keen on Diarra

West Ham midfielder Alou Diarra is reportedly being chased by Spanish side Espanyol.

Diarra joined West Ham in August for £2 million but reportedly fell out of favour after being injured for three months, and now French newspapers are suggesting that he could fill a gap in the Espanyol side. The story comes immediately after the utility man was quoted in French sports daily L’Equipe as being unhappy about reportedly lied to about the terms under which he signed for the Hammers and is allegedly looking for a way out.

The 31 year old Frenchman could well struggle to keep his recent place in the Hammers side with the return of key midfielder Mohammed Diame and Allardyce may be willing to let him go.

As yet, there is no indication of how much Espanyol are willing to offer but there are other clubs also interested, including London rivals QPR, so a bidding war. could be on the cards. Espanyol have just lost their manager, Mauricio Pochettino, to Southampton so are likely looking for experienced players to add a bit of stability to the side after such upheaval, and Diarra reportedly fits the bill.

Diarra would be added to a long list of recent players to unfortunately not make an impact at Upton Park, and should he leave this January he can hardly be blamed for pursuing a regular starting place.
