Hammers scuttle after Rat

West Ham are reportedly considering a late swoop for Shakhtar Donetsk left back Razvan Rat. The Romanian international is out of contract in the summer and, according to Sky Sports is unlikely to agree a new deal before September so the Ukrainian club would be keen to sell. The Irons have already signed a left back in the form of Emmanuel Pogatetz, but may well want to sign further cover, with first choice George McCartney still a long term absentee. Rat has a glittering trophy cabinet which includes Romanian and Ukrainian titles, as well a 2009 Europa League winners' medal. If Big Sam was playing Football Manager, his scout would be telling him that the 31 year old "could really add something to the team."
