Cheeeel Winston: centre half awaits scan on groin

Winston Reid is in injury limbo as he waits to get a clearer picture of extent of the damage on his groin, after he limped off after an hour of last night's 5-1 thrashing at Arsenal. The centre half has been one of West Ham's outstanding performers this season but now could be facing a stretch on the sidelines, pending the results of the scan on his injury. With fellow defender Danny Potts also waiting the results of a scan after falling heavily during last night's match and spending the night in hospital; and with regular central defensive partner James Collins still not match fit thanks to a recurring hamstring injury, the Hammers could have a real defensive nightmare on their hands. Manager Sam Allardyce is painfully aware of this, telling the Daily Mail "we can stand an injury anywhere on the pitch other than another defender, and now we've had two injured; Reid with a groin injury and young Danny off with concussion. It gets even more desperate that we find a solution in the transfer market." Big Sam has been linked with moves for Blackburn's Swedish defender Martin Olsson and Dnipro's powerful young Ghanaian centre half Samuel Inkoom, and with a potential defensive injury crisis on his hands and only a week to go till the transfer window closes, the West Ham boss surely has to make a move for one or both players- or perhaps an old fashioned Big Sam transfer steal for a decorated veteran with something still to offer is on the cards? Whatever he's thinking, Allardyce has to act now before it's too late.
