Irons enamoured with Amorebieta

Spanish newspaper AS are reporting that Athletico Bilbao left back Fernando Amorebieta, a Venezuelan international, has decided to leave the Spanish club on a free transfer at the end of this season. The news is a shock for Spanish football, as the 27 year old has been Los Leones undisputed first choice left back for the last seven and a half seasons; and has a big reputation in La Liga. West Ham are reportedly interested, according to Sky Sports, as are Premier League rivals Everton and Stoke. Aside from recent signing Emmanuel Pogatetz, Amorebieta is the fifth left back the Hammers have been linked with in the last three days; with no further news on moves for Martin Olsson, Stephen Warnock, Aly Cissokho, and Razvan Rat; and it is very clear that Big Sam will stop at nothing to land one of his targets. The manager said yesterday that with transfers in January, "ninety nine per cent of the time, you are wasting your time," so it's safe to say we can imagine more left back related rumours in the next 30 hours!
