Austria captain Pogatetz in Hammers medical

Reports from German newspaper Bild yesterday that Wolfsburg's ex-Middlesbrough centre half Emmanuel Pogatetz was close to signing for West Ham have been confirmed today by Sky Sports, who reported in their website a few hours ago that the Austrian cruncher flew into London tonight and is undergoing a medical today. Pogatetz will sign on loan till the end of the season, subject to agreeing terms, with the Irons believed to be paying a loan fee in the region of £500,000 with an option to buy for around £2 million at the end of the season. With Winston Reid limping off against Arsenal last week and James Tomkins suffering from a loss of form, we could be caught short of quality in central defence as well as at left back, so the signing of Mad Pog could be just the ticket. Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan's son Jack; generally a reliable source for deets on totes hot transfer goss; stated on Twitter that "we expect to sign Emanuel (sic) Pogatetz later today, terms are agreed but its not signed yet." More on this as soon as we hear it!
