Sacre Bleu! Monaco join race to sign Ivory Coast hitman Bony

Another twist has become apparent in the Wilfried Bony saga which looks set to drag on all summer, as the striker has revealed that French side Monaco want to sign him.

In an interview with African football website jeuneafrique.com, the 24 year old stated that he 'was told of Monaco back in Ligue One,' but did not specify for how long he has known of the club's interest.

Bony however did go on to say that he would not be averse to the idea of a move to France, saying that although 'championships like England, Germany, Spain are attractive because they can practice attacking football, France would not hurt either.'

The Ivory Coast star also reiterated his ambition to play in the Champions League, but again, did not state a preference for any particular nation, let alone a club.

Monaco are renowned in France for being an ambitious, big-spending club, yet their bid to sign Bony is somewhat audacious.

Les Rouges et Blancs were relegated from Ligue One in 2008 and have only managed to bounce back this season- they currently sit five points clear at the top of Ligue Two, having wrapped up automatic promotion some weeks ago, they will not want to seal the title in the remaining three games.

As such, being a newly promoted would mean that they would be considered an outsider in the race to land Bony, but the forward is clearly not rejecting the club's interest out of hand.
