Carr praises U18 show at Stoke

West Ham Academy Director Tony Carr has praised the efforts of the U18 side after their 2-0 win over Stoke City completed their season with four wins in five games.

Joe Ward and Djair Parfitt-Williams scored on the day, and after the match Carr opened up to whufc.com about the progress of the young side.
On the Stoke victory, he said: "We won 2-0. We put in a very disciplined performance and defended very well against a Stoke attack that was very direct and saw a lot of high balls pumped into our penalty area. It was a good rearguard performance.”

He added: "It was a well-worked victory and fully deserved."

Carr was also keen to comment on the rest of the season, and had good things to say about the progress of the defence: "We were talking on the coach on the way back from Stoke about how we had played well in most of our matches, but that we had been conceding sloppy goals that had put us on the back foot.

"We have worked on it and have been a lot more secure in recent weeks, which has enabled us to record some good results.”

The U18s will finish the season with friendlies against Tottenham and Southampton. Carr said that these matches will be used to trial some U17s and schoolboys in preparation for next season.

Seems like a well disciplined end to the season has put the team in high spirits, and who knows, we may even see a few in U21 action next season.
