Driver looking for Dev Squad response

West Ham Development Squad captain Callum Driver has called for a response from the side after a crushing 5-2 defeat last week against Southampton.

Later today, the Hammers’ U21s kick off their final game of the season against West Brom in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League, and hope to finish fifth.

Ahead of the clash, Driver spoke to West Ham TV about the Southampton defeat and said: "It was just individual errors, everyone makes them but unfortunately on Thursday we've made more than one in the game and that's obviously shown in the result.

"It's frustrating but you just have to put your hands up, hope you react as a team and get the result at West Brom. We've got a few good characters, so hopefully we'll bounce back. It's all part of the learning curve. Everyone makes mistakes but it's just about how you respond to them.”

On missing out on semi-finals, Driver said: "We're very disappointed, particularly after the great game we had against Liverpool at the Boleyn Ground. To go from one extreme to another doesn't make for happy faces in the dressing room.”

He does think that the side have been unlucky after a decent start to the season, but admits that they were “scrapping” for wins at the latter stages to gain a play-off place.

The team are looking forward to the Player Awards on Wednesday and hope to finish on a high to be able to enjoy the awards night.
