Hammers to open talks with Carroll over permanent move

West Ham will move to secure on-loan Liverpool striker Andy Carroll on a permanent deal this summer, and will soon open talks with the England man and the Merseyside club, according to TalkSport.

The 23 year old is the club's joint-top scorer this season with 7 goals, alongside skipper and friend Kevin Nolan and the Irons have made clear their intentions to nail Carroll down on a long term deal.

Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan said today: "Andy would be my choice for player of the year. He's battled back form injury twice to put in tireless shifts for the team. His game is about so much more than scoring goals and he is so often the focal point of everything we do good going forward."

"We would love to keep him beyond this season and will soon be sitting down with Andy and Liverpool to make some progress on that front."

Liverpool have previously been reported as keen to recoup as much as possible of the £35m they splashed out on Carroll in January 2011, but recent reports have suggested, originally, that West Ham would give the Anfield club a take-it-or-leave-it £10m offer and then that they would be prepared to raise the offer to £14m. Newcastle United, Carroll's hometown club who sold him to Liverpool two and a half years ago, are said to be keen on re-signing him.
