Hammers in hunt for young Gun Campbell

West Ham could be set to land Arsenal starlet Joel Campbell after talks to extend the player's season-long loan at Spanish side Real Betis stalled.

An Arsenal source confirmed over the weekend that the club are keen to keep the Costa Rica international in England for the time being.

"Arsenal would prefer to loan Campbell out to a Premier League side," the source stated.

The youngster's agent, Joaquim Batica, was believed to have spent the majority of last week in London in order to finalise details of the extension of Campbell's time in Spain, but talks have sicne broken down.

Betis sporting director Vlada Stosic confirmed last week that the club are turning their attentions elsewhere, stating that 'the Campbell deal has stalled a bit,' and that 'we are more focused on other signings.'

The forward himself has no specific preference over his next move, telling aldia.cr in a recent interview that he is 'still not sure' where he will be playing next season but that there is 'no way I could lose' because in his eyes, La Liga and the Premier League are 'the two most important leagues in the world.'

The Hammers will face competition for Campbell's signature from newly-promoted Crystal Palace, according to reports last week in the Newham Recorder.
