Sam's the man for Andy: striker will only sign permanently if Allardyce stays

According to the Sunday People, Andy Carroll will only sign a permanent deal with West Ham in the summer if Sam Allardyce is still the club's manager. The big striker is currently weighing up his options, and is said to be keener both on returning to Liverpool and proving himself to boss Brendan Rodgers and on a move to St James' Park to play for boyhood team Newcastle United than he is on signing permanently at Upton Park.

The two factors that the Hammers have in their favour when it comes to attracting Carroll is the 24 year old's friendship with club captain Kevin Nolan, and the huge respect he supposedly has for Allardyce after the Irons chief brought him away from a difficult spell at Anfield. The newspaper states that "sources close to Andy Carroll" have informed them that "the only way that Andy Carroll will join West Ham on a permanent deal is if Big Sam is still the manager."

The Sunday People state that a £17 million fee has been agreed with the Reds for Carroll's services, as reported by Sky Sports on 1 February- yet Allardyce was quoted on Friday by Yahoo!-Eurosport as saying that "a lot of things need to be worked out" before any bid was made. Thus, it is difficult enough to be sure of whether a deal has been agreed with Liverpool or not to sign Carroll; never mind whether he wants to go or not! As ever, Blowing Bubbles will keep you all in the loop..
